David Gaffney is the author of three critically acclaimed micro-fiction collections – Sawn-off Tales (2006), Aromabingo (2007) and Edgehill Prize-longlistedThe Half-life Of Songs (2010) – and novel Never Never (2008). His new collection of short stories, More Sawn-off Tales, came out in May 2013. He comes from Cleator Moor in West Cumbria, and now lives in Manchester. David is behind two of Manchester’s more subversive literary events: guerrilla-writing project Errata Slips for Cornerhouse Micro Commissions, in which fake amends telling a story are surreptitiously added to magazines, and Station Stories, when six writers “secretly” performed short stories to audiences linked by headphones. Originally commissioned by Manchester Literature Festival and taking place in Manchester Piccadilly railway station, this is now being developed for new locations.

Eley Williams is a short story writer and former deputy editor with The Literateur journal. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Royal Holloway, University of London. She has had work published in Visual Verse, Ambit, Belleville Park Pages, The White Review, Exegesis, Notes from the Underground and elsewhere, and she won the Christopher Power Prize 2005 as judged by author Philip Pullman and poet Gillian Clarke. With short story ‘Concision’, she won the London School of Journalism’s Microfiction Competition (2011) while her short story ‘Platform’ was featured on Prospect magazine website as a winner in the Franco-British Council 2011 short-story prize. Away from print, she has read at festivals and literary events with writers Ali Smith, Ben Markovits and Inua Ellams. Her short story ‘Hang-Ups’ was developed for a short interactive film installation with ShadowStage theatre company. ‘Channel Light Vessel Automatic’ was featured on the audio magazine 4’33? and later developed by composer Steven Jackson for a collaborative piece as part of the Vessel exhibition during ‘Noise of Many Waters’, the Royal Northern College of Music’s showcase event.
