Richard Gray who will be the speaker at Southgate District Civic Trust's Open Meeting on 17th October is Chair of Casework for the Cinema Theatre Association. This is an organisation that helps to ensure that the best of cinema architecture and design survives when the buildings are put to other uses.
In this talk, Magic Lantern to Multiplex, Richard Gray will tell the story of buildings for film from the earliest days when the Lumière brothers arranged for their films to be shown on the City of Westminster refurbished Regent Street Cinema site (previously Regent Street Polytechnic) in 1896, through to the arrival of the first cinema multiplex at Milton Keynes in November 1985
Richard Gray will be including some of our local cinemas in this talk.
All welcome, come early for the best seats!
