Event Description

Andy Love MP will be speaking at a meeting organised by the Barnet and Enfield United Nations Associationin partnership with the Edmonton Baptist Church on the crisis in Syria. Andy is Edmonton’s Member of Parliament and Chair of the Council for the Advancement of Arab-British Understanding.

Also speaking at the meeting will be James Denselow the Media and Campaigns Officer at Crisis Action

As Syria descends into anarchy the international community watches paralysed. Up to thirty thousand have already died. There is a threat of wider war in the Middle East, from which neighbouring countries could not escape. Turkish, Russian, Jordanian, Lebanese, Kurdish, Israeli, Saudi, Iranian and Iraqi interests are all engaged, while the UN Security Council cannot act. The destiny of the Arab Spring is at stake and for some the UN itself is on trial. There has been shelling across the Turkish-Syrian border, and tens of thousands have become refugees.
