Event Description

Royalty & Famous Guests
28th & 29th July

We welcome you to our fifth Open House Weekend at Trent Park. This is the final of our current planned weekends during spring/summer 2012.

You are invited to meet the royal and famous guests of Trent Park’s history. Sir Philip Sassoon's luxury estate has seen many enter and leave, especially during the height and glamour of the 1920s and 1930s. Visit us to hear about the untold stories of the upstairs guests and downstairs staff.

Hear stories about:

  • Sir Winston Churchill's passion for art around the estate
  • Sir Philip's involvement in the secret love affair of King Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson before his abdication
  • The wedding presents from Sir Philip to the Duke and Duchess of Kent which are still visible today
  • The famous garden designer Norah Lindsay and her once spectacular garden designs
  • The royal links of the estate from the 15th century to recent years

Guided Walking Tours
We are offering free guided walking tours of the Mansion House (ground floor and basement), statues and gardens (subject to the weather on the day). Tours of the estate run for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes starting at:
10am12pm2pm 4pm

Tours begin at the Mansion main entrance.

The Mansion building is open until 5pm both days although last entry is at 4pm. Please wear appropriate footwear as the tours involve walking outdoors.

For those interested in seeing the flowers and plants on the estate, providing weather is suitable, walks of Sir Philip Sassoon's Japanese Water Gardens (recently being restored by Enfield Council) and surrounding woodlands will be available upon request at an appropriate time during the day. Please ask at Reception on the day.

Museum
We have a small collection of items, documents and photographs in our museum area. All are welcome to come and have a look at them. We are also selling a brochure, which is available at Reception.
