2 Maidstone Road - Application for 6 x 2 bed flats and 3 x 3 bed flats

Evening all.

I'm sure we've all walked past that old detatched house on the corner of Brownlow and Maidstone Road that's been used as a squat and laid empty for some time.

I've noticed that there is  pending decision on whether to demolish it and turn it into massive three story block that will hold 6 x 2 bed flats and 3 x 3 bedroom flats.

I always thought it would have been a good spot for a nursery or similar.  Not sure if that spot can sustain such a development.

The application was submitted in late November last year and there have been five objections thusfar.

Again, I'm not sure what should be done with the existing building (convert to nice flat perhaps) but more over development may not be what we need right now.

Thoughts?

Yes it is a horrid design, out of keeping in character of the area and one that needs stopping asap...

Not more flats?  I know we all need somewhere to live but our area really is taking on a lot if we also consider the schemes for flats and houses due for the North Circ Road.  2 & 3 bed flats mean families and families need parks and schools.  Enfield have no plan to increase school places whilst Haringey has taken Bounds Green School down to a 2 form intake.

Linking this discussion with the one about a local cafe, wouldn't it be great if the ground floor of this building could be a cafe and the upstairs small business units?  Change of use needed but a bit of community space would be great as well.

yes more  property is desperately needed in this area, the prices here just keep going up and there is not a lot on the market arond here.  it is better than this just being left as it is and the other option would be yet another fast food outlet or bookies!  Neither of which is obviously needed!  Having said this a bakers would be good!

It looks as though this monstrosity has been approved by the case officer, a Mr Matthew Gunning. He has rode roughshod over the objections, batting them back one by one.

So yet another cheap looking block bringing down the character of the area. Hardly progress in my book.

Looking at the drawing, the flats seem about the right height for a prominent corner position. There isn't a plan, so you can't really tell whether the footprint is over-developed.

The design isn't very inspiring, but I'd rather it be modern rather than a pastiche. We do need more housing in London, so if no one is willing to do up the existing building then I can't see that this proposal is too bad.

Richard - can you merge these threads?

"Mergeing" as such isn't possible - so I have closed this thread to further comments and added a re-direct to the current discussion.
