Age UK Enfield offer three specialist services in this area already helping to bridge the gap between generations.

Citizenship is an intergenerational project which links young people from the ages of eleven up to their early twenties with older volunteers. It does so through informal discussion and debating groups.

TransAge allows volunteers aged 50+ work with young children in a variety of settings including schools, breakfast clubs and family centres.

TransIT Serivce gives sixth-formers (16-18 year olds) at a number of Enfield schools to help older people to learn IT skills.
The sessions take place in the IT suites within the schools and are on a one-to-one basis during term time.

Age UK Enfield are not funded by the national chairty Age UK and are therefore responsible for sourcing their own funds in order that these important services continue to run. For more information about these intergenerational services please see the link below.

Good spot...what a great project.

I was thinking of starting something similar but outside the school space.  The idea was to try to link families with kids that don't have a grandparent figure living locally with people of retirement age who want to meet more people also living locally.

Still trying to figure it out, but if you have any ideas please pitch in or maybe we can meet to discuss!

Hi,

As someone who is about to retire I am really interested in projects that cross the generations and contributing to community in this area. Recently we have spent some time wondering whether to move from the area as we want to live more in a sense of community - yet just having come back from walking around the back streets of bounds green (in the sunshine!) I am struck by wanting to stay here.  So posts like this are really interesting and I would be keen to be involved.

I'd totally love to meet to discuss the idea. So far I've been brain storming with another local resident Richard S and we are very open to creative input to help us turn idea to reality! How about a coffee and cake brainstorm in the Step on Friday or Sunday afternoon??

Thanks for that...I'll drop you a text.  Next week may be better now anyways, as I have a bunch of stuff to prepare for early next week and am working Saturday, so might need a bit more time tomorrow.

Liz - when might be a good time for you to catch up?  I'd love to hear your thoughts also. 

There is also an event next Thursday that you might be interested in attending.  Although I believe the focus is on work opportunities for the over 50s, I think they will also be having a more general discussion about what's out there for that age group.

If I have time, I may see if I can attend to discuss my idea with people, if the folk organising it are ok with that:

Hi I'm away at the moment but back next week. Really interested to meet up to explore this. I noticed the meeting about over 50's next Thursday and could go to that. I like the idea of intergeneration work however. But at this stage I just want to get to know some like minded people in Bounds Green. I have just been listening to Woman's hour a piece about 'invisible women' when you get to be over 50. You are so right about the web - I always feel we have a lot to thank Richard for in providing this space - for me it has given me some hope of finding community in Bounds Green - because you can't just go knocking on people's doors. I have lived in this area for almost thirty years - we brought up our children here and I have always thought it had such potential with transport, parks, the Step and the work that is being done around Myddleton road by that campaigning group.

I am now back in London and would love to meet at the Step for a brainstorm.  The suggestion seems to be for Friday 28th - if so - sorry I can't make it then - could do Friday the following week (April 4th) pm at about 2.00?
