Much troubled Broomfield School has been closed since a failure of the central heating system on January 21st.
In a statement on the school website new headteacher Mr P. Travis details the background to a failed heating sytem - a burst pipe , causing an underground water leak ... and the latest problem, the discovery of dangerous asbestos on the school site.
As a result of this complex set of circumstances the school will remain closed - but priority is given to Year 11 students, undertaking external examinations.
The website details plans for other years to attend the school for a two hour period to collect packs of catch-up work set by the teaching staff.
There is no indication currently when the problems will be resolved.

Although Broomfield school was supposed to be re-opened this week futher chaos occured yesterday - the first full-day back - with a power-cut and whole school evacuation. See enfield advertiser story.
The recent failures and extensive criticism of this local school are compounded by a further unfortunate incident. The pupils have had an enormously disrupted term - and so far it's not getting any better.
It's arguable that the disasters of the last few weeks would not have happened if Michael Gove hadn't snatched the "Building Schools for the Future" money a few years ago in a Tory attempt to bail out the bankers at the expense of local kids' education... but given that all schools are facing the same ideological landscape some responsibiliy has to be taken by the current school leadership to provide a place where decent education for our local kids can take place.
Resources - money and staff - have been diverted to support the school, the new leadership has to demonstrate that it is up to the job or we risk our local school closing; failing our local kids and Broomfield potentially becoming an unaccountable Academy.
