Have got a few pictures that need framing and would prefer to go somewhere where I am going to get value for money and choice, or maybe even someone who runs their own business from home. Any leads gratefully appreciated.....

Hi, there's a great picture framer in muswell hill (320 dukes mews) that's used by an artist friend of mine. They frame the picture more or less there and then, give you a good choice of quality wooden frames and the prices seemed reasonable plus they do a good job. I tried the glass shop on green lanes not far from Sydney rd but I wasn't to impressed with the result. It wasn't that the framing itself was bad and the guy running the shop was nice - just that there wasn't much choice and it wasn't real wood. Also, he said as his main business was glazing he actually sent the picture to somewhere in hackney to be framed. It cost a few pounds more than the more expensive looking larger ones my friend had done up in muswell hill. Having said that, because framing is generally costly, if you've got a picture that is a standard size I'd be tempted to buy a mount from an art shop and get a nice frame and that would cost a lot less...if it's not a standard size then framing probably is the way to go.

I would second the Dukes Mews recommendation - very helpful and excellent work.  I think their numbe is 02088831065

Thanks, Sam & Sue, that sounds like very helpful advice.

I'm looking for one too. Can anyone recommend someone East of the borough?

Hi

I would recommend Ian Chiswell who works from home. His tel no. Is 02088890399. It's easy to park ouside his house and he is very reliable. I have had many pictures framed by him.

I use a local, one-man firm, Frameworks.  He has a workshop in The Chocolate Factory.  Have used him for years - sorry, I don't know his name, but his phone number at the CF is: 0208 8890808.  I go there and take the pic that needs framing and take my time choosing the frame.  He usually takes a few days to finish it.  Always does a great job and I think his prices are very reasonable.

I've used the framing shop in palmers green high rd opposite The Fox Pub, near the post office. the rear of shop is a framing workshop.

I have used them a couple of times, but find them a bit expensive.

There is also John Steele at the Chocolate Factory - he is always very reasonably priced!

Thanks Nell, in fact I have just given him a few to do and he is very good and reasonably priced as you say.
