A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Another successful Myddleton Road Market last weekend.
In the spirit of shopping locally and supporting independent traders our family ended up with quite a few purchases.
I was delighted to find BOP Coffee on their first day of trading – Bowes Park coffee roasted and ground in N22. (A really smooth blend of far eastern beans for the experts) I understand from Dharmesh and Rachel that we may soon have a local outlet for regular supplies. Watch this space for more info.
I also bought an organic loaf from the Celtic Bakers – this Wood Green institution had some terrific stuff on offer at the market – as they always do.
What better to go with a cup of coffee and a slice of fresh bread than some locally produced Jam – and the Buzzcluck Blackberry and Apple – hit the spot… all the way from the Wolves Lane allotments!
A few quirky Christmas gifts included some plants from Lydias Nursery and soap and cute character candles from Natural Organic Home made by Tottenham Honey bees!
Some other purchases some didn’t make it all the way home to be photographed! Our family had some vegetarian Nachos, from El Dorado and samosas and a pizza from the Bowes Park Deli stall. My daughter particularly enjoyed her chocolate cup-cake from Little London Bakery.
A couple of other stocking fillers – from DagazDesigns and Studio 306 will remain secret … until Santa has visited.
And after a full-on shopping experience we stopped for a swift mulled wine from The Step tent in the community garden to the accompaniment of the Bowes Park Choir singing festive favourites – then home for sausages from Marsh Farm Produce.
What a lovely day. A huge thank you to the Myddleton Road Market organisers Lucy & Kari and all the traders – looking forward to many more next year.

I bought Oreo Cake Pops. I meant to give them to my nieces. I ate them.
Also, good Christmas cards from Studio 306. 5 for £5, bargain.
Thanks for the mention and glad you liked the coffee Richard.
A splendid day despite the weather well done Lucy and Kari.
My highlights:
Celeb spotting with an early visit from Lynne Featherstone - I think she avoided our stall due to the muddy path in the garden. She did have some suede boots on I think, so a royal wave sufficed.
Excellent Curry and treats and being lovedbombed with multiple cookie samples at Bowes Park Deli - all delicious and some seriously good courgette pickles from buzzcluck.
I haven't tried my local honey yet but love the label and moniker of Bowes Village honey.
Best of all were all the friendly and familiar faces who bought bits had a sample and stopped for a chat. Much appreciated on a first day's trading.
As an update to this post BOP coffee have announced that their coffee will on sale at Solo Way 135 Mydlleton Road who will be stocking packs from Monday. So an opportunity to support two local businesses - by getting yourself some supplies of locally roasted and ground coffee.
I must add, on behalf of London Metropolitan Brass, a huge thanks from us to the people who made the market happen. We had a great time playing for you and adding a bit of Christmas cheer. We really enjoyed the stalls, especially a cheeky mulled wine at half time and some Oreo Cake Pops at the end!
Hopefully, we'll be back again next year!
We have had our stall at all 3 Myddleton Road Markets, we always have a lovely time. Lucy and the team of volunteers that organise everything in advance of the market and on the day do a really great job. We attend events all over the country and this is one of the best organised.
It was lovely seeing returning customers and introducing new ones to our products.
You are very lucky having such a fantastic community spirit in your area, we have always been made to feel very welcome. We are based in Palmers Green so we think of ourselves as your next door neighbours! Thank you.
A huge thank-you to everybody who made the Christmas market happen. We had a great time and felt fortunate to be part of such a lively and enterprising community. Highlights: BOP granola - how brilliant to buy breakfast cereal made in the street where we live! Beautiful screen printed cards and china tree ornaments from Studio 306 made with such care and attention to detail and Mandela tribute jam - a real treat. Above all thank you for the community spirit which was so alive despite the weather. Here's to many more markets in 2014 - we'll be there!!
Despite the weather it was another great market. Just want to give a big up to the Bowes Park Deli. Their orange chocolate delights and plantain and egg curries were truly incredible. Can't wait for them to open in the New Year. It's going to be a brilliant addition to Myddleton Road.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas and New Year xx
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came despite the rain! Also a big thanks to the Bowes Park Community Choir who turned out in numbers to sing carols!
The Bowes Honey was amazing - subsequently bought another 3 jars to give to my family for Xmas.
The honey comes from Wladek Szechter and is called Bowes Village honey. It is made by his bees that feed on all the blossoms in the allotment next-door. A real find.
Thanks Richard and everyone who supported the December market despite the foul weather! Just goes to show how great our residents are. The traders were still very happy with their day. I think it's so important the market keeps supporting local businesses who want to start out. I was pleased to see BOP coffee is now being sold on Myddleton Road!
Massive thanks to Kari, Anna, Lawrence, Tris and Chris who helped so much with all 3 markets.
The plan for 2014 is to keep the market a quarterly one, while we establish it as a self-sustained and operated community enterprise.
I hope everyone had a brilliant Christmas and happy New Year to one and all!
See you in 2014!
Lucy
