A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
I have just heard (5.40 on Friday September 11th) that our wonderful Bowes Park Station Lenny was 80 today!
I gather he will be working at Alexandra Palace Station on Saturday, and I hope to be able to wish him a belated Happy Birthday back at BP Station on Monday.
Here is what was written about Lenny in the 2013 BPCA newsletter.
"Three cheers for Lenny.
Lenny started working for the railway in North London on Nov 11th, 1963. “I joined when steam was just going out. I learnt all the new technology as I went along.
I more or less had to teach myself on the job,” he says. Lenny came to Bowes Park station after
‘retirement’ in 2000: “I meet some of the most beautiful and friendly people. I think that is what kept me in the job, everyone is so friendly.” Our intrepid interviewer, Sue, was there on the day of the big storm and despite the disruption, no-one was getting angry with Lenny and he dealt with everyone so calmly and helpfully."
