Opening of the new Myddleton Road Outdoor Gym and Table Tennis area: April 20th.

The new Myddleton Road Outdoor "Green Gym" and Table Tennis area is opening later this month on Saturday, April 20th. There will be an official opening event early in the day - and from 12:30pm onwards the gym will be open for public use.

Situated directly above the New River Tunnel the outdoor Gym area will also provide a permanent home for the New River Tunnel exhibition panels - as well as a small display of some of the historic bottles collected during the cleaning of the New River Tunnel last year.

The outdoor quality Table Tennis table was one of those set-up in public locations around London during the Olympics last summer - ad now has found a permanent home in Bowes Park.

This is one event of a series to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the New River.
The Gym has been funded by Haringey Council’s Making the Difference, the Myddleton Road Strategy Group and the BPCA. The exhibition has been printed and installed by Barhale Construction plc and the bottle installation was funded by Thames Water plc

On the same day there will also be a plant sale in the Myddleton Road Community Garden, from 11am-1pm So come along - bring your table tennis equipment - and get involved.

Our outdoor gym and table tennis area are an exciting, new addition to the facilities in Bowes Park. Thanks to the Bowes Park Community Association for driving this initiative - and co-ordinating the partners who supported it.

BPCA now want to make sure these facilities are available for everyone for a long time to come, so this means we do need to look after them. They are looking for local volunteers to be part of a team to lock and unlock the gates - the area needs to close at dusk - it’s not fair on close neighbours for it to be open all night. BPCA need some people to just keep an eye on the site and keep it tidy. If you can volunteer a couple of hours each month to look after this new community facility please get in contact.

What a brilliant addition to the area! If you're lucky you might even see Matty having a go on one of the machines... thought I'd treat you to this little video from an outside gym in Valencia... http://youtu.be/F2fsUk50xkY

Sorry, don't know how to make the video the right way up though... so just put your head on one side!
