A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
I cannot believe the extravagance of money being spent on these cycle lanes from our local authorities (Taxpayers money of course) and Palmers Green Town Centre is looking so rundown & unloved, this area was once a Jewel but whoever is controlling Palmers Green is focusing more on the Enfield areas and leaving Palmers Green to one side, the state of a area brings crime, values of houses go down, and Councils know this and do nothing to improve are way of living, all areas should be revamped and beautified to welcome more people to the area and boost business, local authorities seem to be doing nothing for so many years, why they are in a job they do not care about the people and the community is beyond, if its just to pay there bills then that is not ok, we want to see dedication and commitment, we want more as residents as we are paying hefty council taxes and they should be used to give back to the areas.
Palmers Green is the Portal of Enfield and those that govern the area know this information, they have left it to ruins, they should be telling shopkeepers to improve the state of their shops fronts and also most importantly the inside, especially food establishments which I have seen on the high road look disgusting full of debris on windows and fallen signs, of course shopkeepers do not give a damn because the Councils are not enforcing them to keep up with the hygiene and appearance, it should be made compulsory or a penalty will be in order!
Enfield Council, Councillors and Shopkeepers, are responsible and should take accountability of the awful state of what's become of Palmers Green as it was once a very well respected area!

":whoever is controlling Palmers Green is focusing more on the Enfield areas and leaving Palmers Green to one side" but surely this is the obvious Officer reaction to the ongoing complaints to the implementation of the Enfield Green Lanes (A105 section) of the vanity project known as the Cycle Super Highway......
Cannot wait for the cycle lanes to be finished and connected.
And on the funding - the money isn't coming from Enfield.
The money spent on Cycle Enfield comes from the Transport for London cycling budget, it is not possible for Enfield Council to spend this money on other council services. It is anticipated that implementing our Cycle Enfield proposals across the entire borough will cost approximately £42m over 4 years. The significant majority of this funding comes from the successful ‘Mini Holland’ bid which secured £30m from the Mayors of London cycling budget. A further £7.7m is funding that Enfield would always have received from TfL to contribute towards transport improvement programmes. A further £1.5m will be received from Network Rail and £1m gathered as developer contributions.

I assume that you mean section 106 or CIL monies
None of this puts a value on the massive community disruption
The investment into Enfield under London’s Mini Holland programme included the intent to help make some town centres (including Palmers Green) places rather than simply another drive through point. We shall see but certainly the look of much of Winchmore Hill pavements and broader public realm has improved and similar seems to be happening in Palmers Green under the work. Shop and building frontages are a different matter and will need to wait for an alternate initiative in the absence of owner action.
John Corrigan’s post is correct in the funding and of course TFL’s transport (cycling) investment of £30m is not funded by Enfield rate payers as Don seeks to imply. Yes, there will be a small element, but alongside all other Boroughs and other financial support areas for TFL’s total budget. The £7.7 incremental TFL L.I.P. funding is agreed and invested for borough works which are in line with TFL’s transport strategy, which at present, much like HMG, is seeking to make walking and cycling much more prominent.
On that point, yesterday (21 June) the Mayor released the consultation draft of his new statutory Transport Strategy which seeks to shape transport for the next 25 years. Very crudely it highlights forecast London population growth from todays 8.7m to 10.5m (up 21%, mostly from the indigenous population breeding faster than they are dying) and on the basis that even today no one seems to be saying things such as – there’s enough car parking spaces, the roads aren’t congested, traffic noise and pollution aren’t an issue, it’s safe being a pedestrian and cyclist; and since no one seems to wish to give up their gardens, local park or similar for new roads, then the theme is very much more of the cycling and walking theme to take the transport strain so many more residents and their needs will bring– and the investment and doubtless short term disruption to traffic that goes with it.
The consultation is open until October. Simply Google Mayors Draft Transport Strategy 2017. There may be another way that every report from every body of the last however may years to this transport dilemma has missed. If you have it, now’s the chance to put them right in the real world we are going to inhabit.
