What is it with all the new redevelopment schemes and clocks?

This week we've had plans for a clock to be built as part of the redesign of Palmers Green Triangle - and also a new "landmark" clock outside the tarted-up library - despite the fact that there is a perfectly serviceable, (if not frequently serviced), clock already visible sat right on top of the building.

I can't help thinking this is such an unimaginative, lowest-common-denominator, lazy civic response to rebuilding - the sort of idea that may have been a good one in the Victorian era. But not now - when the vast majority of people are walking around with at least one device in their pockets telling the current time, a street clock serves no functional purpose.

If there really is a burning desire amongst our Councillors for a public clock perhaps a small amount of money could be spent getting the clock that gives "Clock House Junction" its name fixed-up.

This is genuinely a landmark / gateway position where Green Lanes crosses the A406.
