Firstly...just wanted to introduce myself. My partner and I have recently moved to the area and are loving it. Everyone we have met so far has been ever so friendly and the Middleton Road facilities are a godsend.

We are wondering if anyone in the area has experienced problems with television reception? We moved into a house that already has a rooftop aerial installed but are only able to get two or three (digital) channels and even then only intermittently. Usually I would assume that the aerial is at fault, only I have noticed that there are a lot of satellite dishes to be seen around and I wondered if this had something to do with tv reception in the area generally? Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions!

Not that I use it much, but I get perfect reception (and a host of channels) via a roof aerial and Freeview in Bowes Park — presumably from theCrystal Palace and/orAlexandra Palace transmitters.

Could your aerial be misaligned or perhaps broken? It might be worth comparing its reception to that obtained with an indoor aerial — this may not still be perfect, but if it picks up more channels (after some fiddling), then the rooftop aerial may need professional attention.

And you have, of course, retuned your Freeview receiver since moving to Bounds Green..?

I am in Bowes Park and since last summer been using Virgin Media cable for TV reception - but before then our Freeview reception via an Ariel inside the attic was pretty good.

You can check your likely reception quality on the Freeview website by just typing in your postcode check at http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability/#

Hi Alex, welcome! I keep meaning to try out the Freeview on my telly so I can ditch my Sky subscription so this is a good prod for me, thanks.

Thanks for the helpful replies. Julian - I suspect that it is indeed the aerial that is at fault. We've arranged for a television engineer to visit so hopefully we can get this sorted, though not sadly in time for what is left of the Olympics.

Richard - interesting to hear that you are able to get Virgin Media. I wanted to bring Our virgin media services with us when we moved but were told that we could not get any cable at our new address (we are just off Myddelton Road).

Not all the roads in Bowes Park are wired for cable — I'm on Manor Road and can't get it.
