Thanks for posting this link- what a great man he was and so much done for the benefit of ordinary people right across the country. With all the cuts in public spending and closure of public libraries, we need the spirit and commitment of people like Passmore Edwards still. Commemorating his centennial is a good way to remind ourselves of all of his achievements that helped the public, especially the poorer parts, and all the things that are needed more than ever in contemporary society. ... such as free, public libraries.

I have just come across a postcard of “Bowes Park, Cottage Hospital”. Can anyone tell me whether this is the Wood Green Cottage hospital?

We have an archive photo of the hospital elsewhere on the site. 

It has been variously describes as Bowes Park, or Wood Green Cottage Hospital - although it was actually located at Bounds Green!

Thanks Richard, I hadn’t seen that page - with its plug for my book. That is the postcard that I have. If anyone comes across anything else about the hospital I would love to hear from them, even if it seems trivial. Still building up my archive on all things to do with Passmore Edwards.

Hi Dean

I am interested in finding out more about a Dr Charles Hamilton Connolly, who was Wood Green's Medical Officer till his death in 1910.  I believe he was based at the Passmore Edwards Hospital.  Do you know where I might be able to find out more about him?  I'd be grateful for any clues!

Sorry, can’t help. There are no records at all listed on A2A. Have you looked for local newspaper reports of his death?

Yes, but surprisingly lacking in detail.  Was there an inhouse hospital news letter perhaps?  I don't know A2A, what is it?  Thanks for your reply!

Sorry, again, I don’t have much info about the hospital at all. A2A is Access to Archives, the online register of archives. Can locate documents in archives all over the country, but alas not any for Wood Green hospital.
