Walking around Bowes Park last week I noticed a couple of bits of historical street signage that must have survived over many years - and their contemporary replacements.

This old sign for "Marlboro Road" spelled like the cigarettes) has no punctuation or indication that it is an abbreviated form.

Just across the way  the new street sign shows the full name Marlborough with the ..."ough" ending. (just behind the leaves!)

On a turning a little further down Marlboro/ugh Road  is this sign high up on a wall - (just below a satelite dish!) showing the name NorthbrookRoad (one word, no space)...

... yet opposite at street level is a newer sign indicating North Brook Road (two words, spaced).

Which is "correct"?

Are there any other left over bits of historical street furniture that provide a glimpse into our local history?
