Here's my straw man for the B.G. borders.

Of course I'd welcome alternate suggestions. I'd like to thing that at a minimum, the following areas would be included in Bounds Green:

- Our house
- Scout Park
- Tube station (naturally)
- The Ranelagh
- Bounds Green School

Not sure if residents of Bidwell Gardens consider themselves part of Bound Green or not.

I agree with all of Dave's comments including his house even though I don't know where it is. I think we should go up to the North Circular-across and down to Green Lanes-include Commerce Road.
And if people who live in Alexandra Ward want to join us then I think that's good. Let people define themselves as in the area.

Hi Cathy - great to see you here! Feels like a community site already.

I was thinking about what makes up 'Bounds Green' (whatever that means). I didn't feel confident about trying to specify the Bowes Park area. In fact there are some areas in the area I drew for Bounds Green I'm not sure about - hopefully people from (say) Ollerton Road would come on and indicate whether they feel that they live in Bounds Green, Bowes Park or Arnos Grove even.

I'd be happy to produce maps like these for other 'sub-areas'. Perhaps we could have a map showing the whole scope of the site with differently shaded areas for the sub areas, as it were. People might like to have ultra-local sub-groups on the site for just their respective group of streets, even.

I'll take your suggestions and do a similar map for Bowes Park.

I wonder if we might take it one road further south beyond Commerce Road - that way Trinity Road, the Greek Orthodox Church and the Pub are in the core area?

yes, it should include trinity Rd, Trinity gardens and the school, and ideally also Nightingale Gardens across the road - rather than letting the B G Rd cut it off!
Also, the dead end roads on the south side of the B Gn Rd always get left in limbo, but no real reason why they should, so maybe extend to the railway line south and to the back garden boundaries of Park Rd east.
Somehow we ought to talk to people in the residents associations/neighbourhood watches etc that are in the extended area and see what they feel.

This is a pretty thankless task - each time I move the boundary a bit wider, I look at roads just outside and feel bad for them. I wonder if a map with a hard/fast limit to the area covered is a perhaps not the right approach. Just wondering. As usual, I'm happy to hear your thoughts.

I'm not sure where Nightingale Gardens is - is it that bit next to Nightingale school, or is the bit that runs behind Braemar Ave?

I know some people who live in Cumberland Road. I'm pretty sure they consider themselves Wood Green, not Bowes Park, but I'll add that in as well.

Looking again at this issue of where the boundaries are led me to this interesting bit of work.

Using the data from the FlickR website - where people ientify the locations of uploaded images - a map of neighbourhoods demonstrates that, in London at least, there are no hard and fast boundaries between people's perception of local areas. Have a look at the resulting map when "Bounds Green" and its neigbouring districts are selected.

Well, I am saying Thank you... yes Thanks for mapping this.
Your latest go seems good to me.
It may go a bit outside the borders that Richard has just sent - but then that cuts things in half (Nightingale Gdns and others) and leaves out the Hidden River Path etc.
Nightingale Gardens is the large open space that runs south from Bounds Green Road towards Ali Pali St, Behind Braemar Ave. It has the New River under it. It is sort of left out every time money is spent or people have ideas - just look at the front and sides.

I know the bit you mean. Does it include the bit next to the Starting Gate pub - I call that bit Tellytubby land :)

Well, Yes and No!
I think that the bit just south of the defunct railway line, at the end of the back path, from there to the Station is called Avenue Gardens. But it is sort of all part of one linear open space made necessary because of the New River underneath. I gather that the humps and bumps are remains of air-raid shelters - but that is only gossip! I bet they are something else - more research needed.......Must look it up in Albert Pinching's book - or ask him!

It has just been pointed out to me that the boundary of the Bounds Green electoral ward takes in the pub opposite the station, and the boundary is Station Rd. So the cottages etc in the little roads near Avenue Gardens (Dorset Rd, Terrick Rd etc) and the houses fronting the gardens - all are in BG Ward and perhaps should be included????
