More gifts to the gods?

Brain Moore needs some furniture

I am sure many of you will remember Brian Moore who lived at 99 Myddleton Road.  A 'local character' whose family had kept a clothing shop there, and he ran it until the early 2000s.  To cut a long story short.... he has been ill recently but is now recovered and is in a temporary stay care home.  He very much wants to get home to his current abode in sheltered accommodation near Alli Palli station.  They have deep cleaned it and had to jettison some of his very old stuff.  It is now ready for…See More

More gifts to the gods?

In June last year I found - by the New River - a lovely tray full of gifts to the god of life-giving water.  This was a known Hindu custom at a time when the god's help was much needed. Yesterday when picking up bottles and cans I found something else which amazed me. At the top of the bank, just to the side of the steps to the New River off Myddleton Road there were two red wine bottles, two circles of small glasses which were three-quarters full of red wine, and in the centre of one circle…See More

Follow the wooden brick road!

For a few days - or maybe weeks - you have the chance to see the orginal Myddleton Road.  The surface was wooden bricks.  A patch of the tarmac has come off in about the middle of the road just east of Ayta Supermarket.  Take care ..... but if you look at this from above you can see some of the original bricks that made Myddleton Road in the 1880s.  Amazing condition!See More

Welcome back from Africa to Myddleton Rd again!

The Swifts are back!  Saw 3 swooping around over their favourite nest eaves in Myddleton Road this morning.  If you speak Swiftese.... please tell them that I have had two nesting boxes installed in my roof - at the top end of Whittington Rd.  Hurrah for Summer!See More

New River works will close The Green Space and part of Path

You may have seen the notice on the gate to the New River Path on Whittington Road.  That section of the Path and the play and leisure space at the end of Russell Road will be closed for about 14 weeks from April 6th.  Barhale will be doing clearing, inspection and maintenance work on the two culverts that carry the river under the A406.  A plan of the culverts is attached to this - so you can see how it works.  They will close one culvert, then clean it out and do any necessary works while the…See More

Children's play

It has become even more clear as the months have passed that our Community Gardens and play areas are much used and loved by so many children.  Finsbury Gardens has been so well used that sadly there is a very muddy area around the Lizard, and the two hillocks are in a poor shape.  Things will have to be sorted in a while.  But on my regular litter-picking walk it has been a pleasure that makes me laugh out loud to see some of the charming and fun things the kids have done and made.  I attach a…See More

Good News Flowers

10 years ago I wrote a short piece for some friends about daffodils and Bounds Green. I was deleting a load of old files and found it.  As it is daffodil time again, and there are even more people here escaping wars 'back home' , I am 'sharing' it wider.

"Yesterday something happened that sort of woke me up a bit.  So I thought I would tell you about…
