A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
We've been working on Thames Water to free this up for community use like BPCA has got done on Myddelton - and we think it's going to work.
Given the (relative lack of) funds at our disposal, the officer thinks we might be able to swing...
"Some soft landscaping and a couple of benches – maybe even the pub style ones that are tables for people to sit and read etc.
We can do some pretty fancy planting with different types of grasses and ferns that are really low maintenance and are quite attractive but do not provide a haven for any anti-social behaviour as they are all about knee high when in full flow"
Sound good? Maybe do it in BPCA's name?
It sounds like an interesting idea. Could the fence be re-painted at the same time? The paint is not in very good condition.
We live on Russell Road. Really glad something is being with this done space.
I agree with Daniel the fence is not in a good state. I'd like to see it replaced ideally at the least painted and repaired. I don't think tables would be worth doing as it would encourage even more people hanging around drinking beer. Perhaps one bench would be good.
Could you also consider:
-landscaping it so it doesnt collect water near the railing.
- add a stone path from gate to river path (this is always muddy and well tramped)
- additional lighting
- PLEASE more bins
Def like to see some more planting (see what theyve done outside Finsbury Gardens - so nice) but I think trying to make it a picnic area or outdoor gym is not really worth it.
Be good to hear what other people think.
Thanks Daniel and Lucy, am sharing this with the Council officer in charge
This came up at the BPCA AGM a few weeks ago and we are keen to help where we can. We have a committee meeting in a couple of weeks time. Alan, if you'd like to discuss further, please email me on info@bowespark.org.uk and we can see where we can help.
Thanks Liz! For the moment, the Council officer is trying to bring Thames Water back to the table. I'm sure we'll succeed but meetings with them are notoriously hard to arrange.
I agree that tables would encourage loitering around which would not be good. Please be aware that grasses do actually need quite a lot of maintenance to keep looking good - i.e. splitting every two year so that there is no dead centres, also other dead foliage needs to be removed regularly too.
