We feature four amazing musicians in March at Karamel.
Brigitte Bertha– 13th of March 2025
Brigitte Bertha (vocals) performing with Paul Clarvis on drums, Alcyona Mick on Piano and Amy Baldwin on Bass.
Embracing a wide variety of music influences and genres, from jazz and latin to classical and, more recently, electronic, Beraha’s sound is free and fluid with an emphasis on exploration and expression. Fearlessly testing the limits of the voice as instrument, her sound is distinguished by the unexpected, with free improvisation and evocative wordless singing at its core.
Devon Gates – 20th of March 2025
Devon Gates is a bassist, vocalist, and composer from Atlanta, Georgia, now based in Brooklyn, NY.
Performing works for the first time in the UK from her newest project, "Water Dancers" and fresh from a New York premiere at The Jazz Gallery in December, she explores colors, sounds, and textures inspired by the elements of water and air, the blues, and the question: what might it mean to dance in rhythm with the ever-changing movement of the tides of life?
Her original compositions and arrangements are paired with a blend of traditional and unconventional instrumentations, with a quintet of friends she met studying abroad at the Royal Academy of Music, Hoda Jahanpour (cello), Casey Whyte (violin), Gates on bass and voice, Scottie Thompson (piano), and Ananda Brandão (drums).
Jyotsna Srikanth– 21st of March 2025
Hailing from Bangalore and now based in London, Jyotsna is Europe's foremost Indian violinist. Her music illuminates Carnatic musical tradition in kaleidoscope colour.
Bangalore Dreams is Indian Contemporary Music. The violin is in the forefront with the backing of drums/Indian ethnic percussion & keyboards/piano along with exciting improvisations of the Indian ragas in a contemporary way. There is a balanced blend in the technical elements of Indian music layered by western harmonies. Jyotsna will also present covers of Bollywood and South Indian film melodies. She is supported by two brilliant musicians from India, Shadrach Solomon on keyboard and Amoghavarsha on drums.
