No Victoria line services to run between Walthamstow Central and Seven Sisters for three weeks!

No Victoria line services to run between Walthamstow Central and Seven Sisters for three weeks from 8th to 30th August

Thousands of commuters will face more than three weeks of travel misery this summer when a large section of the Victoria line is completely closed for upgrade works.

Large-scale improvements need to be made between Walthamstow Central and Seven Sisters to increase the frequency of services.

But it means nothing can run between the north London stops from August 8-30, threatening to cause travel chaos for thousands for nearly a month.

Transport for London (TfL) has apologised for the disruption it will cause but said it is necessary to allow 36 trains an hour to run on the Victoria line from 2016...(for more information click here) with Working Timetable 39

From a discussion on District Dave's web site

The work at Walthamstow would be replacement of the scissors crossover. The need to replace this crossover has been a headache for some time, such that it has been put off as far as possible. If I recall correctly it has had a 'temporary' speed restriction on it for many years now. A faster run in/run out would enable an increase in service.

I know an aspiration for the Victoria Line is for as many trains as possible to run through to Walthamstow. Good news for Walthamstow, but it will upset a few from the likes of Finsbury Park who know that they stand much more chance of a seat if they wait for a Seven Sisters starter!

There will subsequently be a 52-hour closure to the line in early 2016 to carry out works to Northumberland Park Depot which will result in trains being able to get into service more quickly". (Details later)

The London Overground service referred to in the Evening Standard article are the trains from Chingford to Liverpool Street every 15 minutes. This service is currently operated by Abbellio GreaterAnglia until 31st May 2015 and apart from "rebranding" to London Overground no material change to train frequency during Monday to Friday peak hours can be expected.

As such from May 2015 onwards it is planned that LOROL will operate the following Sunday frequencies:

Liverpool Street to Chingford - Every 15 minutes (No change)
Liverpool Street to Enfield Town - Every 30 minutes (No change)
Liverpool Street to Cheshunt via Seven Sisters - Every 30 minutes (No change)
All stations between Liverpool Street and Edmonton Green will have a service every 15 minutes like a Saturday although not starting early in the morning (Presently only Enfield services stop at all stations and only Edmonton Green, Seven Sisters and Hackney Central get four trains per hour on Sundays, all other stations getting two trains per hour, so for most stations south of Edmonton Green, they will see a doubling of Sunday services from two to four.)

NO TRAINS WALTHAMSTOW TO SEVEN SISTERS  TFL Underground are reporting for the weekend of May16/17:

Victoria line
There will be no service between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central. This is to allow for the installation of a temporary crane to prepare for future work.

sawb has asked elsewhere:

Just wondering, where is the crane going to be stored between installation this weekend and the start of the blockade in August? Surely there is nowhere in the tunnels for it to be stored?

Harsig has replied: : I'd suspect that the crane is to be installed into the crown of the tunnel that forms the crossover cavern. There ought to be enough headroom there for it to remain permanently in position while train pass beneath.
