A recent exchange on Twitter about Pubs in our area got me thinking about places to eat and drink locally.

Where are your favourite places? Best Pub? Perfect Pizza? Champion Chips? Favourite full-english or king of  Kebabs?

The ongoing Twitter discussion about bars and restuarants has Cllr Matt Cooke highly recommending the "AMAZING Fresh Thai food " at the Prince of Wales on Trinity Road. Fatisa Pizzeria at the corner of Woodside Park on the high road also gets a favourable mention. Both excellent suggestions.

Of course there is always the Ranelagh - surely everybodys favourite local? - especially on Thursday nights with the excellent live music from Toybox

I'd also add a more recent local arrival to the list, Funky Lounge is on Green Lanes near the North Circular and is a great place for a coffee, smoothie (or my 2 daughters favourites!) milkshakes made with chocolate bars or confectionary - there's also free wi-fi.

Any other suggestions?
We totally love To Spitiko on the corner of Belsize Avenue and Green Lanes. It is beautiful decorated, the owner is so friendly and the food is to die for! Two starters, two mains, bottle of wine, relaxed atmosphere - so homely... all for £40 for two! Oh, and they do amazing take away from their proper menu for half the price.
Yes, Fatisa gets my vote , a great addition to the area. Was a bit disappointed with the Prince of Wales though. I arranged to meet a couple of friends there for someThai food and a pint and-absolutely no food on offer! A lovely interior but spoilt by two huge screens playing non-stop MTV. No-one was watching except the person behind the bar.
I agree with Diana, we're really missing a nice cafe in the area. There used to be 'the Handbag cafe' near Alexandra Palace but unfortunately it is now closed. There are lots of them in Muswell Hill but that's a bit far.
When we were doing some work in our house and had no kitchen, we tried lots of take-aways in the local area and we love Oriental Chef opposite Bounds Green station and Mohammedi in Myddleton Road. We now have a functioning kitchen but we still have a take-away from time to time as a treat.
I can also recommend To Spitiko - nothing to do with the fact that we live just around the corner, and I get delicious smells of charcoal grilled lamb wafting through my office window from lunchtime onwards in the summer! Their moussaka is amazing, and huge portions too.
Hi Kari
I too have a soft spot for To Spitiko it was the place we visited on the night when we first moved into our current home in Melbourne Ave- 12 years ago now! ... and it still is excellent.

I agree about their amazing Moussaka and the huge portions often mean we can share a takeaway.
For those who brave the Wood Green Shopping City, there is a great little vegetarian cafe in the market section, up the ramp past the fruit and veg. It's called The Green Cafe I think, has been there years and he sells a few items on the side as well, like pulses etc.  We had a delicious curry there the other day!
Have you tried the Mauritian take-away opposite? That always looks and smells delicious.
