It looks like the retail landscape around Bounds Green Tube is set to change dramatically.  I understand - the former Bounds Green Press premises at 127-131 Bounds Green Road (next to the Springfield Pub) is currently being converted into a Tesco Metro store. This will, I'm sure put a bit of pressure on the existing food shops in the vicinity - I can't see them all surviving, and in the current economic climate the likelihood is, sadly, more empty shops

The problem with the road layout is not entirely down to the council; Latham Court is a privately-owned road which has a 24-hour parking restriction in place, vigorously enforced by a private security firm. In recent years local newspapers have reported on the harsh treatment of unwitting drivers who park here. Several vehicles have been clamped and towed away with reclamation fees close to £200. Some partially successful work on the junction layout and traffic lights at the top of Brownlow road was carried out a year or so back - but I agree the whole area around the tube station could be made a much easier place to navigate - for both drivers and pedestrians.

Interesting news about the proposed new Tesco.  I never thought I'd say this, but this might be a good thing, as a bit more competition in the area is a good thing.

Next target should be the Springfield Tavern,  The place needs a total re-invention ala the Ranlagh.

Are you really so naive to think Bounds Green can have 2 gastro-pubs ? The Springfield is a profitable pub catering to a different clientele to the Ranlagh.If you like your faceless chain pubs where you have to wait 10 mins for a drink while people order over-priced food then fine,but that isn't for everyone.So no,i do not 'get you'

I agree, Tom.   Convenient they might be, but there's too many multiples such as Tescos and Sainsburys, in my opinion - we don't need any more!  I know that parking is a pain around Bounds Green Station, but I enjoy the variety of shops and I think it would be a huge shame if they disappear.

But surely convenience and goods/services that residents actually need are exactly what is required from your local parade of shops? Yes - I am all for independents and you are right that some of the independents near the tube (the laundrette/dry cleaner, the newsagent, the Chinese take out, the post office, the pharmacy and hairdresser) are fine but two pokey and identical shops side by side - how is that variety? Yes - I like the fact that they have fresh fruit and veg but really - do we need two - plus a third convenience shop across the road - in an area where there isn't a cash point that you aren't charged for, where there is no bakery, florist, decent cafe, hardware store? I am happy that some people's needs are serviced by the betting shop and kebab shops but surely there are other things that this community (and those from neighbouring areas who use the tube) would benefit from as well.

I have lived in the Bowes Park area for over seventy years. I find the shops at Bounds Green really useful and such a treat after the massive Tescos,Morrisons and such. The owners are very welcoming and will help you in many ways, have you found this at the big supermakets?. I only hope that Myddleton Road,Bowes Park can be reactivated as a good centre again, a post office would help.
