Thanks for sharing, Stephen. I'm pleased I now know where Finsbury of Finsbury Gardens and Road comes from. And following the stream (which I'd never heard of before) is an unusual way to navigate through the area. Will definitely explore more of Edith's Streets.

When you walk or drive over Durnsford Road towards the recreation ground, as you go beyond the railway line just poast crescent road, looking left you'll see an old, rather tall brick chimney (it now has some telecommunications equipment on the top) It's what's left ofd an old laundry that used to wash clothes and make its steam from drawing water from what i think was the Moselle river that runs in the valley bed there. I think the history is set out in the Albert Pinching book that's referenced above.

 

Albert Pinching, by the way, is an amazing local historian who lives just off the Bounds Green Road (or who did a few years ago, at least).

This week there were workmen digging a trench in Finsbury Gardens apparently uncovering the hidden Muswell Hill Stream. Caroline Simpson has investigated - have a look at this post and photograph.
