Myddleton Road Local Shopping Centre - Haringey Council consultation on changes to planning policy

Myddleton Road Local Shopping Centre - consultation on Planning Policy.

Haringey Council is inviting representations on the draft Myddleton Road Local Shopping Centre - Policy Guidance Note. It is a rather technical document; however it's well worth a read to see the old photos and learn about the development of the shopping street.

The picture (right) shows the shops of the terrace on the south side of Myddeleton Road circa 1889. There are more lovely old photographs and historical context in the architects report from last year by Butler Hegarty; and of course the terrific Oral History Project: My Bowes Park has some local residents' memories of  Shopping in Myddelton Road

In essence it looks like the proposed changes to the planning rules will allow unused commercial units to be converted to residential accommodation - whilst retaining the original architectural and structural features.

This document is part of Haringey’s Local Development Framework and when adopted will form part of the context within which future planning applications will be considered.

The consultation period for this document runs from 30 July until 17 September 2012. Responses should be submitted by 5pm on Monday 17 September 2012.

Thanks for the reminder to read more on this and comment. I believe The Step have a couple of copies of the proposal at the till too, for folks who are in there a lot!

Thanks for the reminder, Richard!

I'm retired and not a car owner (why have a car living in an area so well covered for public transport links?) so I order my food etc from a supermarket on-line every couple of weeks.  This works perfectly, I just have to get milk and maybe odd bits & pieces in between locally.  BUT oh I do wish there was a local bakers shop!  Where can I buy, within walking distance, a fresh baked loaf, crusty rolls and occasionally a cakey treat?  Please someone open a good old- fashioned bread and cake shop in Myddleton Road.  Surely a local shopping facility should contain fresh products required every couple of days hence 'convenience foods'.

Lefteris on the High Road/Green Lanes is a fab baker. I'm not a fan of their cakes, unfortunately, but the bread and rolls and savoury treats are wonderful.

public meeting to discuss these proposals has been arranged by LB Haringey for 6pm on Wednesday Sep26th at 128 Myddleton Road. More information here.

Additionally the period for consultation has been extended until October 1st - so you still have time to have your say>
