If you really want access to  a good local butcher the best kept secret in Bowes Park is the butchers at the back of Yalchin's supermarket which is next to the Cypriot bakery which is the first shop in Green lanes in the right.  It is sort of opposite the Tesco Metro in Green lanes.

It is a family business with three generations of Yalchins.  They suppply a number of local restaurants and all of their meat comes from Smithfields.  Shops lke this will be in danger while big supermarkets in increase their hold. The longer the Big supermarkets  go on, the more people will forget  what real meat tastes like!  Do yourself and everyone else a favour:  buy your meet from Yalchins.  Those of you who have been using Myddleton Road since whenever will remember that  there were once three butchers shops and a fish shop!

That really is a butcher's? I always thought it was a supermarket but they'd not bothered to change the shop name. Thanks for the info, Jonathan. When I was a meat eater I was a customer of Meatland and the butcher's counter in Sirwan. Wish I'd know about the Yalchins then.
