Can anyone recommend any local catteries? We've been researching Elite (on the A1) and reviews are very mixed, particularly with criticisms about the size of cages. We have only become cat owners very recently so not sure what is a reasonable for such facilities anyway!

So, has anyone used a local(ish) cattery and thought it was decent? Thanks!

Hello

I'm sorry I don't have cattery details but have you considered using a cat sitter to come to your house ? It's usually about £10 per daily visit ,
I think our cats are better staying at home really as they do not like trips out, especially to the vets.

I would also suggest a cat sitter - I only know one place out in bedfordshire run by a breeder that I wouls consider lodging mine at. There are plenty of contacts of cat sitters at vets and a friend of mine looks after my cats who might be interested to work for you if you live in the Bowes Park area. She is very dedicated to my cats and her own. Let me know if you want her contact details.

My cat spent a week at Elite last autumn, and she emerged her usual zen-like self.. her previous owner had taken her there and the staff remembered her and him.  If I recall rightly it cost £6.50 a day and was due to go up to £7 or £7.50.  I agree the cage area doesn't look enticing (pretty smelly but looked clean) but I was impressed with the staff, who really seemed to know their stuff.  The Feline Advisory Bureau says cages should be 'of a suitable size', which doesn't help!

As for alternatives, I initially asked my vet for recommendations but they didn't really have much to offer - apparently there aren't that many catteries around as the trend is towards cat-sitting services (which cost £10+/day).

The ideal of course is a cat-friendly neighbour - I have several who are great, but of course can't always be around when I'm not!

Good luck with your search.

Try the cattery near potters bar all seasons boarding cattery or the cats whiskers cattery in the same area. All seasons does pick ups from your home

Thanks all - my cat is now booked in at Hornsey Vets' Cattery but I will keep these suggestion in mind, for next time, in case this option does not work out; EyeInTheSky, I may contact you in the future if I need your cat-sitter contact.

Phoebe Davidson, All Seasons looks great! The availability is really tempting. While I probably wouldn't shell out on the delivery, its location is pretty handy for our route to my mother-in-law's house (which is where I'll be heading, generally, when I'll need catcare) so may well give it a go on our next break away from home. Thanks again for the suggestions.
