Front garden dug up and concreted without notice
We got home from work 6 weeks ago to find our front shared garden had been dug up and half of it cemented for the installment of a bin refuse. There are three flats in our building - two privately owned (we're private), and one council. Neither of the private owners were notified of this work, which was done at the request of the council tenant living in the ground flat who said the bins sometimes block her car if they blow over in extreme weather. The building freehold is owned by the council.
When we moved in two years ago we cleared the garden of weeds, dug it over, and had been looking after it since. I planted a large number of bulbs and perennial plants over the course of last year, ready for spring. We've grown tomatoes and established a healthy herb garden. All of these are now gone.
We lodged a formal complaint with the Haringey Council but were ruled against, offered a token "goodwill" payment, and told work would proceed. We are devastated at the thought of losing the garden, and are now petitioning the council to reconsider. There are so many good reasons to fight for keeping this space in favour of a concrete rubbish store!

I cannot believe the council have the right to do this without consulting the other owners! It's a disgrace. I've signed your petition. Best of luck, you have my support.

Thanks. It was so upsetting coming home to find all of my seedlings had been either dug up or buried under soil and trampled by the builders. :(
