I'll start.

I'm currently managing editor of website Londonist and I work from home on Fridays. Up until a couple of years ago I was a freelance administrator, writer and pet carer whilst I worked towards turning Londonist into a full time job, which it is now (hooray!)

I did all sorts of things as a freelancer: transcribing audio, bookkeeping, reading books for a literary agent, looking after rabbits while their owner was on holiday, feeding people's cats, copywriting for a drink brand, loads of powerpoint and spreadsheets, organising events, helping out at parties, filing - you name it.

These days at Londonist I'm responsible for running the business side of things: looking after finance, sales, HR and general admin but also still find time to write the odd article and be involved in the more fun side of things.

I teach group Salsa classes locally on Myddleton Road as well as English as a Foreign Language (strange mix I know!) as well as the odd spot of journalism, proof-reading and copywriting. I also have a toddler so it's nice to be able to decide on my own hours and get enough time to spend with her.

I have no business background so sometimes feel like I'm working blind although I seem to have had quite a bit of beginners luck! In any case, I love the idea of Freelance Fridays and would love to meet other freelancers and share ideas over tea and cake so thanks Lindsey for setting the group up! :)

I am setting up a business, as a teacher of basic computer skills, aimed at people over 60. I have extensive experience working with this group as a volunteer with Age UK (Islington branch). I can also provide proofreading skills.

Hi,

I've just returned from Mongolia where I was doing a stint for VSO (volunteering overseas).  Before running back to the formal job market I'd like to give freelancing a go but am very new to it, so am still not sure if I will stick with it!  I'd love to meet others who have been at it longer to see how you got started.

To provide a bit of stability I'm working a couple of days a week and then on top of that using my background in management consultancy to dabble in a few projects in the voluntary and social enterprise sectors, including mentoring a social entrepreneur and looking into a start-up project for a funder seeking ideas on how to improve lives of an ageing society...

Ashleena – I hope you can come to the Freelance Friday at The Step today (between 4-6pm), as would love to hear about your VSO experience in Mongolia. I think you will love freelancing too!

I'm a freelance graphic designer, working with children's book publishers and small businesses. I'm also a freelance cycling instructor. I teach children and adults – from beginners to riding on the road. My main cycling work though is based in East London working for a social enterprise called Bikeworks. Here I teach cycling to people who have physical and learning disabilities.

I've been freelancing for 9 years and love the flexibility and variety that it brings – that you can have more than one job/career and still make things work.

Hi

I work for part of the week for a community charity in east London - on communications. As it is a small team I get involved with many aspects of the work: writing editing publishing reports; some basic typesetting and layout; online dissemination through web and social media as well as and overseeing major publication projects. I do occasional Press and PR work - whatever is needed to tell the story. In the past I ran an independent community publishing venture - and now I spend part of my time looking after the Bowes and Bounds website. I am interested in finding more opportunities to work on freelance projects.

Hello Everyone,

Finally joined the group! I am a freelance accountant and have been for the most part of five years. When I am not doing tax returns and accounts I help my husband organise training workshops for Complementary therapists. I have been freelancing since 2007 and love it to bits. I am hoping to pop in for one of the friday meet ups when I am not dropping kids off at various activities. Looking forward to meeting everyone soon :-)

Hi Antoinette! Look forward to meeting you.

Hi Antoinette. Welcome and look forward to meeting you soon. We're around today if you have time, but if not, definitely another time!

Thanks Lindsey and Mandy. I will try to pop in today for half an hour or so to say a quick hello to everyone :-)

Hi everyone, I'm a freelance copywriter/SEO, interested to the point of geekiness in all things digital.

I've been living in N22 for almost two years but only found out about this website recently, so I'm really looking forward to hooking up with other local people at a future Freelance Friday!

If you're a developer/designer I sometimes have clients who need your services, so feel free to get in touch here or via my website if you prefer: http://stevealphabet.com

I also like making/playing electronic music, playing a bit of tennis, exploring the local area... although these days most of my spare time is taken up by my 1-year-old daughter!
