Talkies Community Cinema has been an enormous success in Pop-up venues around Palmers Green and Southgate - in a new development the Talkies team are keen to extend screenings to Bowes Park and Bounds Green.

A few people are getting together on Thursday March 12th  at The Step 8pm for an informal chat about programming, and organising community cinema events locally. Do you want to join us? Leave a response below or e-mail admin@bowesandbounds.org.

I will try to get there wherever it is on Thursday. The Ranelagh would be good. Anna

That;s Great Anna, look forward to meeting you,

David

Hi Anna, the meeting will be at The Step 101 Myddleton Road, N22 on Thursday 12th 8PM

Anna I think I missed you out on the email circulation for the Talkies meeting last Wednesday. I don't think I have your email details so can you drop me a line at talkiescommunitycinema@gmail.com so I can add you to the group mail?

In the mean time I have started a discussion on Talkies at Bowes and Bounds if you check out the forum page.

David

Dear Richard,

Hi there - this is a brilliant idea for Bounds Green, love it - I'm very sorry that I cannot make tonight, due to a friend's birthday party, however, I'd love to join in the discussions at the next meeting at the end of the month. As an ex-film PR, I've got a ton of experience that could help this project. See you soon.

All the best,

Roz

That sounds great Roz. How about a coffee in the next couple of weeks to bring you up to speed on where we have got to? You can contact me at talkiescommunitycinema@gmail.com if you like.

David

Dear David,

Hi there - I'm so sorry, I've just spotted your reply today, but late I suppose. We were also unable to come along to your first event - I only have 2 days off a week, so my spare time is a bit rare - do call or text me on my mobile - 0781 864 5692 some time next week and we can hopefully meet up and have a chat? Thanks.

Best,

Roz

Hi Roz will do - what is the best day for you?

David

Hi David,

I don't have set days off, but generally speaking Monday or Tuesday afternoons are good for me. I could do Monday 18th of May around 3 or 4pm? Let me know what suits? Or call or text me. Thanks. Roz

Roz, you should have had my email now about meeting at the club on June 3rd, so that can replace our draft arrangement for today if that's OK?

The first Talkies screening in Bounds Green was a sellout - Mark Isaac's fascinating film, The Road was made even more enjoyable by having the director in the room to talk through the processes and themes the film embodied - we even heard from one of the film's subjects who was also present.

As well as Marks screening and Q&A Talkies also showed "No 99" a delightful short film about the famous George Moores Menswear shop in Myddleton Road. Again the filmmakers were present Nina Ahmad and Elena Negriolli answered audience questions about the film - and presented their main protagonist Briam Moore - who was also present.

Finally Jess Bishopp's short film about the Cafe on Palmers Green station "Platform 1" was screened - this was a new commission by Talkies for the Here Film Festival (Read a review) Filmmaker Jess had Mark Isaacs working as a mentor on her production.

Overall it was a terrific evening of fascinating cinema, insightful discussion and entertainment. I hope there will be many more Talkies events in our neighbourhood - please leave a comment below or respond with an e-mail if you'd like to be part of a team prgramming and organising events locally.
