Event Description

Join @wolveslane_n22 for a free community discussion on Indigenous Resistance Day and its importance to the Land Justice movement and our growing community.

What is Indigenous Resistance day?

Indigenous Resistance day occurs on the 12th October, the day in 1492 when colonial violence was unleashed on Abya Yalan (the reclaimed name for the land colonised as South American) Indigenous communities, when Christopher Colombus landed on Abya Yalan shores. Today, Indigenous communities of Abya Yala reject colonial ‘Colombus Day’ and instead celebrate Indigenous Resistance Day. Celebrating past and present Indigenous resistance to colonisation.

The 12th October is therefore a call to not only retell history, but also to talk of the present and shape an alternative future. It serves to discuss colonisation, both past and present and how we as communities can fight it to achieve land justice.

Therefore, during this Global month of reparations, we come together to ask:

  • What can we learn from Indigenous Resistance past, present and future?

  • What does it mean for Land Justice in our community?

*Lunch*

Come by Wolves Lane early for lunch, before the workshop, from our community kitchen. Food is made using organic produce grown on site, as well as surplus supermarket vegetables. The Community Kitchen Food Justice programme works on a sliding scale so you pay whatever you can, those who are able to can pay a solidarity price so lunch can be free for other members of the community in need.
