Here’s why
Over the last few months, FERAA and other action groups have been working extremely hard on the campaign to save our major roads and Town Centre from the Cycle Enfield scheme. We all want to persuade Enfield Council to develop a local cycle safety scheme that is good for cyclists AND residents. The current plans will tear up a large part of our major roads and impose heavy traffic restrictions that will diminish the quality of life for thousands. The cycle scheme will lie largely unused.
We have held numerous residents’ meetings and made representations to the Council but it has refused to enter into meaningful discussions. This Council has a fixed idea of what will benefit its residents and will not take their views into account.
Given the cost of making a mistake it must be worth it to pause and hold meaningful talks but our elected representatives are still denying us this route.
So the Opposition Party has tabled a debate before the full Council on the wisdom of this scheme on - Thursday 28th January 2016, 7pm at the Civic Centre.
Free parking in the area from 6.30pm.
Everyone will be affected by Cycle Enfield. Do come and hear the arguments and lend us your support for a better scheme. To get the Council to listen we need a strong turnout on the 28th to make clear the demands of the overwhelming majority of residents.
We hope to see you there.
Peter Gibbs
Chairman
