Looking to borrow a large trailer, and get some help with George Moore's Myddleton Road

Hi- I've just bought George Moores on Myddelton Road, and am starting work on clearing, planning and getting the building ready for renovation.

Until our finance is in place for the building work, we are operating on a small budget so I am being ingenious with the clearing and preparation processto keep funds free to the architect and planning process ( plus the very expensive empty buildings insurance which is like a small mortgage! )

I wonder if anyone knows someone who can lend me a decent sized trailer for clearing the rubbish out? I have a small one but really too small- I have a ball hitch on my car so can connect it easily. If I hire vans then the rubbish tip on Western Rd will want to charge me high fees for using the tip- if I take the stuff in a trailer and book it in it saves hundreds of pounds at this tender stage of operations.

Also, if anyone wants to come and lend a hand in the clearing process, you might find it a fascinating historical moment. The old man that sold it to me wants to keep much of the stuff- but really it's too much for him to be clearing  it all out, as he is 80 and his health is not so good at the moment.

Hope someone can help- at least with the trailer!

Thanks,

Nick Hoywell-Walker

Hi Nick,

I can't help at all with the trailer but would be very happy to help as a "grunt" with the shifting. I am fascinated by the story  of the shop.

All the very best,

Pete

Thanks for the offer of help Peter- I have connected with you so will message you when you've accepted the connection. I am thinking of doing a day this Saturday, let me know if you'll be around. Nick

Hiya Nick,

Let me know when you have the trailer sorted and will happily come and help move unwanted stuff into it apart from "early" sat morning especially after a night at The Step Friday afternoon! LOL

With out the slightest hint of ingratitude, I couldn't possibly expect a well-coutured woman like yourself to come and shift such grimy old stuff into a trailer Suellen, unless you're really a glutton for punishment - but do come and cheer us on and bring us tea and brownies from next door.  I'll have to have a George Moore's hall of fame where everyone who helps gets their name on a brick like in the national theatre.....Not wishing to be unmindful of the sexist overtones of my response, of course I am sure you are as capable as any man of helping out......! We'll start at 6.30 am...is that too early?

Don't know how, but I'm as strong as an ox, got the constitution of one too! Medical science should investigate me once I'm gone!
Helping shift some gear or offering as you suggest, moral support, cheery banter, coffee and maybe brownies would make me very happy especially now, knowing that my name will be immortalised forever in brick for this community project! Wow what a bonus!

See you around 2.30 pm, hope you have enough hard hats for all :)
When do you start the clear up operation? I have a van that could be used to take some stuff to the recycling centre/tip as long as I book a slot..... I'm away for the next 10 days but happy to help after my return?

Hi Rachel- Thanks for your offer of the van. If you're happy to let it be used- It's just vans which are used regularly for this kind of stuff that seem to fall foul of the rules at the recycling centre- for example my upstairs neighbour has a van which he lets me use, but he only has a certain number of slots per year, otherwise he has to pay as a trade user- if you're happy to let me use the van for this, that would be very generous of you- thought I'd just mention the rule thing. ( Which is why I've been heading down the route of borrowing a trailer- they seem OK with trailers if they're booked in, and don't seem to have a quota as long as it's not obvious trade rubbish )

Initially I'm going to do one giant clear out of the outbuildings at the rear (this Saturday)  which are full of old car parts and all kinds of hoarded metal. ( have been trying to get the scrap metal guy to stop for ages but he always sails past too quickly ) and dump a lot of the more useless stuff from the shop- that will then make room for us to start work on bringing stuff from the back half, and upstairs part of the house- which is so crammed with the previous owners hoarded rubbish that it's almost impossible to move- we'll then sift through it in the space we've made in the shop, and take it to the recycling centre in stages- so this is when your van might be incredibly helpful.

I have made a connection with you  via the mail thing on here so let's be in touch when you're back.

Thanks again,

Nick

Happy to help out tomorrow Nick but probably not at 6.30!!!  Will come by in the morning.....

Hi Nick, I am MORE than happy for my van to be used when I'm back (from the 21st) and I will be in touch then. Have fun on Saturday starting the clearing adventure - shame I'm away on the beach in India!!
Rachel
Hi I was wondering if any photos were taken of the inside of the shop... Have just moved into the area and the shop caught my eye straight away.

Is it far too nosy to ask what the building will become once you've renovated it Nick? ;)
