We have lots of well loved open spaces nearby and now you have a chance to nominate your favourite for the award as the UK's Best Park.

Whether your favourite way to enjoy your local green space is a game of tennis at Albert Road Recreation Ground; enjoying the community festival FinsFeste in Finsbury Gardens; a moment of quiet solitude in the Myddleton Road Community Garden visiting the busy centre of volunteer activity in Broomfield Park; the jazz picnic in Woodside Park; or the majestic views from Alexandra Park you can decide why your favourite place is worthy of the title.

Nominate your favourite local green space and - in no more than 50 words - explain what makes the space so special and worthy of the Award. You can also upload a photo. You have until 5.00pm on Wednesday 4th November to nominate. Shortlisted parks will be displayed online and put to a public vote The UK's Best Park will be revealed at the Fields in Trust Awards on Wednesday 2nd December.

It's impossible to do justice to Broomfield Park in 50 words, so I did this instead -

Broomfield Park

When the bandstand bellows out summer blues

We stretch on the grass with a glass of booze

And we sing

We sing

Over a red-leaf carpet when the weather is foul

We hug our coffee below the wooden owls

And we sip

We sip

When ice freezes over the terraced ponds

We see in their mirror the geese and swans

And we sit

We sit

When the fairground settles on last spring’s grooves

Carved horses gallop on painted hooves

And we spin

We spin

When night-time falls over Broomfield Park

We shed inhibitions in the velvet dark

And we sin

We sin

Michael - this is excellent ... you should definitely nominate Broomfield Park in the national awards

... I don't think any of the other nominated parks have inspired poerty!

Remind me never to take Hastings for a late night walk in Broomfield Park!

One photo wouldn't do justice to Broomfield Park, so here are several I took on my last visit -

This park evidently has a multitude of uses. Her'e the Director's Cut version of the "Hounds of Hell" as part of the build up to the next ..

With thanks to thanks to all at Streetz Ahead and Morrisons PG

Following the closure of nominations two local parks are in the running for The UK's Best Park - and it's now down to to a public vote.

Albert Road Rec. and Broomfield Park are our local contenders for the award - along with 120 other green spaces across the UK.

It's a simple process to vote online at the Fields in Trust website. Vote for your chosen park and encourage your friends and neighbours to do the same ...so we can celebrate our local outdoor spaces and the amazing volunteers who work so hard to make them great places to enjoy.
