A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
hello!!
why do the train drivers decide that in the middle of the day or even worse at night, they test the engine of the trains at bowes park station?
i mean don't they know its a residential area?? like come on dudes, i don't mind noise, but not train engines! you step in your garden and ghhhhhhh train engine sound!
anyone else experiencing this or am i just the weird one :p

Hi Amir
Fortunately we live just far enough away from the station to be troubled at home but I've often thought that people living close by get a raw deal from it! Not sure what can be done though....you can bet that Network Rail are covered by some legislation or other.
Good luck!
Best wishes
Mat
Presumably (or possibly) it is caused by trains using the centre siding just north of the station.
That is the only way empty trains out of Kings Cross can get into Bounds Green Depot, since there is no flyover on the main line, although one has been talked about.
Put it down to lack of investment in railways.
I dont mind the train engines so much - some even sound romatically like old steam trains.....
What I am really glad about is that we no longer have the really heavy train that used to come through at about 3.30am and shook the whole house and rattled all the windows. It used to be every 2/3 days.... it only comes really infrequently now. Hurrah!
My house/garden backs on the track just along from the BP station.

I have lived in the area for many years, in fact my back garden runs down to the station it's self. I have found that an investment in double glazing cuts out all the noise, sorry I know this is costly but it does work.
lol we have double glazed, i think it got particularly annoying during the summer because windows are open and everyone is sitting in garden, hence i needed to comment on it, in the winter its not that bad
I live seven doors away from the railway and drop off to sleep to the dulcet tones of WAGN engine-testing. China does rattle when trains go by. Like Caroline, I try to look on the romantic steam era side, but sometimes wish the trains were less nocturnal!
