Over the last couple of weeks I have seen a few posters up in local shops for the Residents' Association meeting happening at Broomfield school next week. It is also listed in the events section on this site.

The poster includes a list of seven items to be discussed at the meeting - doubtless all are  important but I find it depressing that each one of them is framed as a complaint about how bad things are - overcrowding, traffic, crime rubbish...

Shouldn't Residents Associations, at least in part, be celebrating what is good and positive about the areas they represent? Focussing on the assets not exclusively on the problems?

I will be going to the meeting, and I do want to get more involved in my community - but not because of all the things wrong with it (which are just part of city living) ... but because of all the great things I love about living in this area.

This website also lists a whole load of other amazing things going on - Artistic and creative events, social activities and neighbours offering information and advice to each other. I can't help thinking it would be a more attractive meeting if there was a bit of time to celebrate what is positive about our neighbourhood.
