A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
News today that one of our local newspaper groups - publishers of The Hornsey, Crouch End & Muswell Hill Journal and the Tottenham & Wood Green Journal will print their final editions on October 4.
The Journal, which has been printed in various forms since 1879, will become a website only service providing news online.
It's the latest in a long line of stories of local papers across the country ending print production - or closing down altogether. The Newspaper Society have chronicled about 150 local newspaper closures over the last five years. The economic model for local press in a tough economic climate - just doesn't seem to be sustainable.

It's really sad but it makes sense. I buy the paper once a month or so because I catch up with everything online on a daily basis which means I can't complain. Just hope the excellent reporters they have on their staff keep their jobs because they do a great job. The changing face of the media, I see Time Out has now become a free paper this week.
I'm saddened by this too. I know several elderly ladies who get their news -- and planning information from these papers. They don't have internet, but I suppose they are also not the target market for the publisher's advertisers.
