A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Hi all,
It's been suggested that installing a handrail over Bowes Park station bridge would be helpful for elderly people crossing over, particularly during snowy or icy periods, as due to the slope and not always regular gritting it can be a challenge to cross.
I've written to First Capital Connect, which manages the station, via FixMyTransport - would welcome any views or comments you have on this.

The subject of your "campaign" may be a good one - but I notice on the Fix My Transport website it is identified as a party political campaign.
Whilst it's origin may not make a difference to the impact of its success for the people who use the station - I am sure you would agree it makes a material difference to your motivation for starting a campaign.
Would you please indicate the party political nature of the campaign you are asking neighbours to support - or at least declare a your party political motivation on your profile page.
The members of this forum may support your campaign, and may do so either because, or despite its party political motivation - but they deserve the respect to be shown the transparency of your use of this community forum to advance a particular party interest.
Thank You and good luck with your campaign.
Hi John,
I don't think it says that it is a party political campaign on FixMyTransport - I believe it may be defined on the site as campaign, and the site allows other people to join in and comment which is perhaps where the confusion is. I'm not expecting a simple letter to FCC to be the end of it and it is also good to know the views of other residents, which is why I posted here in the first place!
I'm happy to declare I'm a Lib Dem campaigner in Bounds Green. I'm afraid I can't see how to declare a party political motivation on my profile page but if you can advise on how to do so I'll happily do that.
Please do write a similar letter to First Capital Connect if you agree - either through FixMyTransport or another way!
Chris
John, Chris,
This site is available to anyone with an interest in our area to comment on local issues - or campaign for improvements. Whilst the site itself is a neutral, non party-political platform, there is nothing in the terms of service to prevent anyone promoting a local campaign initiated by a political party - or any other institution.
There is a request in the terms of service (item k) that elected officials identify themselves - we could extend that to those seeking elected office if people think it appropriate?
To make a change to your own profile page click on "My Page" scroll down to the bottom and click on the "Text box" button - The title and contents of this box are editable. You can include anything here contact information, links to other sites or declaration of interest etc - this will be visible to all members. Once you have added content the box can be moved up to the top of the page (click and Drag) should you wish.
Let me know if further information is needed.
Richard,
Thanks - I've updated my profile accordingly.
Chris
Thank You Chris
Please do continue to initiate and contribute to any discussions on the site.
Best Wishes.

Tom,
Thanks - I wrote to First Capital Connect because an elderly person had raised the problem with me. I wanted to post on here to draw it to the attentio of people - including elderly people!
Chris
FCC don't seem to have any record of your letter - if you can give some details of the content I'll pass it on to the "Stakeholder Representative" I spoke to at the Transport Forum.
I've also started a new thread to try & gather together a good case
On Monday evening I was in a meeting with a chap from First Capital Connect - he gave a report-back on the recent 'spruce-up' works at Bowes Park. I had noticed this discussion about the handrail (though I don't know the ins & outs of the problem), so I asked him if anything handrail-connected was proposed.
He knew nothing about it.
He has promised to look into it, & e.mail me. I'll let you know when (& if) he gets in touch.
Thanks for pursuing, Salli. I think the slope is a challenge for many people, myself included! First Capital Connect are being very supportive of our plan to grow herbs in planters on the platform, so let's hope they can come up trumps with a handrail too.
A new forum strand discussing this issue has been started by Salli: Join the discussion over here.
This question was raised again in a comment on a Photograph of the station bridge ... did anything happen as a result of your letter Chris?
