Since the snow, I've become obsessed with feeding the birds in the back yard. And with the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch coming up this weekend, I've even started buying food specially for them - nuts, seeds, dried fruit - to complement their regular diet of old brown bread and tired cheese ends and I'm putting out water so they can have a drink or a bath while it's frozen…

This morning on Radio 4's Broadcasting House a DJ was recalling his favourite record shops. He mentioned one of his favourites which is a little record shop in Palmers Green run by a bloke called Derek.
I wonder who Derek is and where is his shop. It sounds really interesting. Anyone know?

I was feeling a bit blue and just went over the shops on the parade at Bounds Green. There was a guy busking outside the tube station - a jazz saxophonist playing Take Five by Dave Brubeck amongst other stuff. I hope he returns, he cheered me up no end. (Yes, I did donate!).

On Saturday last I went to The Cinema Museumin Kennington. (Not to be confused with the Film Museum in Covent Garden) It was a great afternoon. If you are nostalgic for the days of usherettes, ice cream in the interval, film posters and programmes, this is the place to go.

I couldn't sleep last night so was wandering around my flat when at 2:00 a.m. I heard the birds begin to sing. I made a little film of it which only gets a short blast of their cheery song! My batteries ran out. And as sod's law would have it they went full throttle after that - until about 4:00. I thought they were supposed to be asleep at that hour of the night - but it was nice to have company! …
