Hi neighbours

Wouldn't it be great to get a Sunday market going on Myddleton Road. Has anyone ever explored this idea?

I was just reading the paper today and saw a story about a group who regenerate old arcades such as Granville Arcade in Brixton, filling empty units with independent retailers and creative spaces. I thought.. how could some of that spirit be transferred to Myddleton road..? I know there are lots of discussions about how it could be regenerated. Thankfully The Step is coming, which will hopefully kick start something, but also it got my mind thinking - a market would bring people to the area, you wouldn't have to deal with property / council / long lost owners issue of empty shops (although obviously it would be great to have them used in better ways eventually), and it would provide a place for local retailers to sell interesting stuff that you don't find in Wood Green!

My brother lives in Clapton and there are a couple of Sunday Markets. Chatsworth Road has become much more interesting with new independent shops. I dont see why Myddleton Road couldn't go the same way.

Lucy.

Hi Nell

The back yard looked lovely this morning! I hope it goes well today.

In terms of the street market we are still trying to pin down councilors and officers for a site visit to Myddleton Road. I don't know what the delay is, as the will seems to be there, but I will keep everyone posted on news.

Strolling down the street today it still seems such a good idea to get something going on a Saturday. I really hope we can make this happen.

I was wondering whether the Myddleton road market plan was still under construction or has it come to a halt. There seems to be no discussion on this for a long time. It is exciting that there is a market coming to Bounds Green school but does this mean that the people who got together to develop the Myddleton road market will not go any further with the idea? I guess depending on how often the Bounds Green market operates there would still be demand for both? Can anyone who is involved with the planning of the Myddleton road market let us know your thoughts? Thanks. Ed

Hope so, although I wasn't involved in the planning. I've checked out the website for the new market and it looks like London-wide street food market stuff, nothing wrong with that and I'm sure many would appreciate it, but I was rather hoping the myddleton road market would be a rather more homegrown affair with very local traders from bounds green, wood green etc so that it would benefit not just the street itself but also the traders who are resident within our area. Also I think there was mention of not just food but crafty stuff or even vintage items which again would be more appealing to me since I can get a wonderful array of street type food, fresh veg, meat and fish up on green lanes already and I do like to shop local! So from my perspective I would still like to see the myddleton market still happen as it would be different from the bounds green market (which says it will run fortnightly) so hopefully the demand for it will still be there from residents and organizers alike.

hi All, yes as Kari said we are in talks still and it seems very much something our councillors are supporting, its just the whole process with the council is slow. At the moment we are still aiming for a smallish market on a Saturday with a focus on local and sustainable produce/ crafts / vintage etc as well as street food. I wish Haringey were more forward thinking than policy bound, but we have to work with them to make it happen. We're planning to work with Beulah at Bounds Green market to avoid clashes and allow people to visit both. I'd love to be able to check out her first market on the 1st but have to be at a wedding unfortunately. It would be great to hear back from anyone who goes!

Hello all,

My name is Beulah and with my husband we are organising the Bounds Green Market, when we started planning we had no idea about the Myddleton Market (even though we have lived in Bounds Green for over a15months!). When we did find out, I had a conversation with Lucy and said that I didn't want all the work that she has done and the local residents to be swallowed up by what we are doing. We agreed that we wanted to work together and compliment each other's market.

We have agreed to run this as an every other Sat market so that when Myddleton Road get their application approved we could take it in turns and help build both markets.

We have tried to source local traders:- Chef Kreyol is Bounds Green based, AtasteofSrilanka lives in Wood Green, Petit Gateau & Velvet Rose are Crouch Enders. We would love to have more local traders and if you are interested or know of anyone interested in having a pitch please do get in touch.

We are not trying to replace local businesses, but we live near Warwick Road and we have very little choice in terms of food and produce so we hope that for residents this will be something of value. We don't want people to feel like they have to choose, but hopefully everyone can benefit from two great markets in the N11 area!

Many thanks

B

Good luck for the 1st Beulah, sorry not to be able to make it but def for the next one. Very exciting to have this in Bounds Green. Will keep you posted of our progress on Myddleton Road.

Good luck with the first market. I am another person who will be away on 1st but looking forward to the next one!

Thank you Lucy and Cathy - hope to see you both soon. Have a great bank holiday weekend

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone would be able to help pursue the market on Myddleton Road with the folks at Haringey Council and the Myddleton Road Regeneration Group. I am now back at work pretty much full time, plus two small children means I don't have the time to keep on at them about getting this started. This is a matter now of pure persistence. There are a number of reasons why this could easily happen:
- massive community support - over 150 people filled in the online survey
- all the businesses the road are in favour - we've spoken to them
- the ward councillors are in favour
- the regeneration group are very keen on the idea
- Haringey licensing are aware of the plans and may be able to arrange temporary licences.

If you think you can help lead on this let me know and I can email more info and contacts.

Thanks

Lucy

Hello Lucy, I have no experience in setting up markets but think it is a fabulous idea and would be willing to help out with organising this and also would be potentially interested in having a pitch to sell my homemade produce:)  You can email me on dalene@me.com

Thanks Dalene, apologies for lack of response... will be in touch with news. Still think this would be such an exciting addition to Myd Rd.

Congrats on the baby Susie! Hope you are getting on OK with the beautiful life change! I will keep all posted on news. L
