Great fun at Brightside Dentists today - a full on Elvis extravaganza to celebrate the King's mouth/dental plaster mould coming to Bounds Green.   …

PLEASE VOTE ON THURSDAY!

It wouldn't be right to use the website to canvas votes for my party, as other parties have just as much a right to make their case.

But one thing that we can all agree upon is the benefit of taking part in the democratic process.

Come rain or shine, I hope that Bowes ward Enfield and Bounds Green ward Haringey enjoy high voter participation

Life Drawing Classes in Tottenham

Today I spent all day in Tottenham at the Beehive Pub - where there was a life drawing class for complete beginners run by the Tottenham Art Group.  It was very good, excellent tutor who gave us all one-to-one tuition as well as plenty of group tuition where he instructed us by drawing and showing us work he had done himself.  The model was really professional and worked very hard.…

Help save The Antwerp Arms in Tottenham

I love pubs. I especially love traditional pubs with a strong local community so when I heard that Tottenham locals were attempting a community buy-out of their local, The Antwerp Arms, I was interested to find out more. I've written about the story for Londonist here. I've also pledged to support the buy-out. Not that I've been to the Annie yet but it sounds excellent and if it was my…

Some Nice Brickwork!

I've noticed a few nice bits of brickwork when I struggle around the block... I think these patterns all have proper names in the building business and maybe somebody knows about them?

These bricks below are on the corner of The Drive and, I think,  Blake Road.  I think they look really lovely, and someone's gone…

MORE TREES!

Bowes Labour wants more trees. Not just us. Most parties agree.

The problems are twofold:

- a sizeable minority of residents are opposed (because trees uproot pavements, cause blind spots, etc.)

- where a tree has been removed due to illness, it's often inadvisable to replant on the same spot (restricting the already limited number of potential sites)

Despite this we've had a number of successes: 6 or 7 on Brownlow soon after our recent walkabout with officers; a… Continue

More pavements!!!

Just back from the We Love Myddleton Road shop. Good turnout and lots of conversations as well as shopping. I said to Ali,one of our councillors, how good the paving looks around the Tube station. And how badly we need more paving especially around the bus stop on Bounds Green Road where the tarmac is cracked and we get huge puddles which fill up with rubbish. The good news is that this is going to happen. There will be paving stones from the bridge to the garage. Also, on the other side by the… Continue

Addressing the shortage of healthcare/GP facilities in the area

Four years ago, one of the aspirations that Achilleas, Yasemin and I had was to try and get more GPs to come into the area. This was based on analysis that the number of surgeries per capita was below average for London. Quite a bit below in fact.

We started negotiating with the PCT for the area (up in Cockfosters at that time). Things looked good - they accepted our statistical evidence. And then... and then the new Government got rid of the PCTs. Which can be critiqued on some other…

Spring bargains at Wolves Lane Nursery

After the Community Garden plant sale last weekend we went to see what Wolves Lane Nursery had for our garden. There are tons of plant bargains to be had at present. We got 12 allysum plants for £3.50 (pictured planted up in our yard) and there were lots of different species on sale at the same 'double pack' price.

A couple of their…
