A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Noticing yesterday that the Naxos girl had vanished from her High Road window, I began to lament the loss of quirky things in our area.
London's most interesting underpants are long disposed of (unless Nick preserved…

So, the rain is here and the temperature starts to drop.
Here at Bounds Green Bowls & Tennis we may have an outdoor bowling green and 3 all-weather outdoor tennis courts but we have the added advantage of an INDOOR bowling green.
So for anyone who needs a little exercise during the winter but prefers the conditions to be warm and dry why not try…

This year, 2015 marks the centenary of one the best known illustrators you have probably never heard of… Yet anyone growing up in the 50s, 60s or 70s is likely to recognise the images of Robert Norton Ayton even if you do not know his name.
Robert Ayton was born in Russell Road Bowes Park during the Great War in May 1915 the second of four sons of…

Constructed just over a century ago in 1910 the building we now know as Palmers Green bus garage was…

**disclaimer: I work for Londonist**
... and we have a merchandise partner who produces print to order t shirts with various Londony designs, among them place names and postcodes. So I asked them to put up a Bowes Park N22 one. And they did.
The t-shirts are a little pricey as they're print to order, and let it be known that Londonist gets a small commission on sales, but…

The third Haringey-set Rex Tracey novel opens with a dramatic and tragic scene as a young girl plunges in flames to her death from the balcony of Wood Green Shopping City.
Suspicious that it's not the political suicide it's made out to be by police, journalist Tracey gets on the case, digging into her family, discovering a lot about Kurdish, Turkish and Cypriot history…

This is something I have been thinking for a while. As it keeps niggling in the back of my head I would like to know the view of other residents in the area:
Campaigning to/with First Capital Connect to fit the Bowes Park Station with a disability access in the form of a built in lift from the top of the bridge to the platform. Bowes Park Station operates on a single platform and thus only one lift would be sufficient to cater for both directions of…

We have become used to Election Campaigns conducted via broadcast media: leader debates live on TV, party Twitter feeds and viral videos on YouTube. Very different from earlier days when politics relied much more on face-to-face discussions, public meetings and rallies; campaigning “on the stump”.
Just along the road in Wood Green is Spouters…

A number of roads, notably though not exclusively, Nightingale Road and Lascotts Road, have raised concerns with us about parking. Other roads in Bounds Green which are in the Wood Green Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) have also expressed concern about the operating hours of the CPZ. Alongside our councillor colleagues in those other wards within the Wood Green CPZ, we agreed that it was time to review the Wood Green CPZ. As Bounds Green ward councillors we also asked for those roads…

“Remember, remember, the fifth of November, Gunpowder Treason and Plot” so goes the children’s rhyme assocated with “Guy Fawkes night” which we commemorate with fireworks and bonfires on November 5th each year.
But many things about the Gunpowder Plot have not been remembered - many…

Pete and I took the train up there last weekend as we'd heard that it had some garden centres. We were really surprised by the area, Britain's "Horticultural Mile'. I wrote an article with photos about it for Londonist which you can read in full here: http://londonist.com/2014/09/explore-the-greenhouses-and-garden-centres-of-crews-hill.php
