Taking London's Pulse - a medical history of the capital city

A great new source of local historical information has just been made available with the publication this week by the Wellcome Trust of annual reports from London’s Medical Officers of Health (MOHs).

The online resource – called London’s Pulse contains more than 5,000 fully searchable reports, from 1848 to 1973, detailing the health of Londoners…

Death at the Palace - local book review

I picked up a copy of A Death at the Palace on Richard's recommendation. It's a murder mystery set around Wood Green.

The blurb on the back cover tickles me: "Stunning new crime set in the capital's least loved quarter". Which is ironic, as any reader will instantly feel Matt Baylis's love for and deep connection with the area. Our anti-hero, reporter Rex Tracey,…

1. Enfield Council officers have written their counterparts at Transport for London (TFL)…

Am I 'Brassed Off'?

It's all your fault, Bowes & Bounds Connected!   If I hadn't clicked on a post by Martin Stogden - who was shamelessly touting for complete beginners for the North London Brass - then I would still be curled up in front of the telly on Wednesday nights relishing the life of an OAP.

Instead, I have to get on a bus no…

How does this sound for the green space corner Russell Rd/North Circular

We've been working on Thames Water to free this up for community use like BPCA has got done on Myddelton - and we think it's going to work.

Given the (relative lack of) funds at our disposal, the officer thinks we might be able to swing...

"Some soft landscaping and a couple of benches – maybe even the pub style ones that are tables for people to sit and read etc.

We can do some pretty fancy planting with different…

Thank you to the more than 120 residents who could come to Monday's Warwick area traffic evening

These kinds of events can be difficult, because different people will have different opinions, because the issues at hand are always complicated, because there are rarely any perfect solutions, and because a few people always come to express negativity instead of working towards positive outcomes

But I was really struck by residents' solidarity, civic-mindedness and focus on the issues Monday. Admirable

For Enfield Council and the Bowes Labour councillors, this…

Our Musical Heritage: Folk at the Springfield Tavern and the Starting Gate

We've organised a community mtg 16 Sep @ Bowes Primary to select a Warwick Rd scheme

When TFL decided (back in 2008 I think? under Enfield's previous Administration in any event) to block off the right turn south into Brownlow from the NCR, it created a bad congestion problem for Warwick Rd residents.

This was compounded by Haringey Council's decision to block off the left turn north into Brownlow from Bounds Green Road. The motive may have been good - ensure the safety of pedestrians leaving Bounds Green station - but the effect was the same: more traffic diverted…
