Charity shops won't take them and even Ebay have failed me.
So, does anyone in Bowes and Bounds have a video cassette player and want some FREE videos? Photo and list below. I'm putting my reputation on the line here folks, showing that I'm obviously one of the biggest kids of my generation. They are all FREE, as I would like to give them a good home rather than go in to landfill. However, just spotted this website that will recycle old video cassettes.…

On 28 September, an intrepid group of Londoners set out from Hertford East station to walk the length of the New River Path on the weekend of its 400th anniversary.
It was a wonderful, friendly group including some Bowes & Bounds locals and London enthusiasts.…

The war memorial at St John the Evangelist church in Palmers Green had an overhaul and clean-up in time for 2013's Remembrance Week.
The Palmers Green war memorial is a very fine piece of work. Carved from coarse limestone it stands around 12 feet high on a wide stepped base. The statue dominates the front of the church at the corner of…

Sharing a message from Thames21's Love The Lea Facebook page. I recommend 'liking' it or having a look at the Love the Lea campaign page. It's shocking how polluted the Lea and its tributaries are.

A great new source of local historical information has just been made available with the publication this week by the Wellcome Trust of annual reports from London’s Medical Officers of Health (MOHs).

I picked up a copy of A Death at the Palace on Richard's recommendation. It's a murder mystery set around Wood Green.
The blurb on the back cover tickles me: "Stunning new crime set in the capital's least loved quarter". Which is ironic, as any reader will instantly feel Matt Baylis's love for and deep connection with the area. Our anti-hero, reporter Rex Tracey,…

It's all your fault, Bowes & Bounds Connected! If I hadn't clicked on a post by Martin Stogden - who was shamelessly touting for complete beginners for the North London Brass - then I would still be curled up in front of the telly on Wednesday nights relishing the life of an OAP.
Instead, I have to get on a bus no…

We've been working on Thames Water to free this up for community use like BPCA has got done on Myddelton - and we think it's going to work.
Given the (relative lack of) funds at our disposal, the officer thinks we might be able to swing...
"Some soft landscaping and a couple of benches – maybe even the pub style ones that are tables for people to sit and read etc.
We can do some pretty fancy planting with different…

These kinds of events can be difficult, because different people will have different opinions, because the issues at hand are always complicated, because there are rarely any perfect solutions, and because a few people always come to express negativity instead of working towards positive outcomes
But I was really struck by residents' solidarity, civic-mindedness and focus on the issues Monday. Admirable
For Enfield Council and the Bowes Labour councillors, this…

Our local area has a bit of hidden history as a location for the performance and recording of music…
